Britain belongs in Europe!

On Saturday 23rd June thousands of Europhiles from all over the UK will take coaches, trains and cars to central London to join in what we hope will be a huge march to 'STOP BREXIT'.

Great, more power to their elbows. Of the many damaging things British governments have done since World War II Brexit is by far the worst. And if it's allowed to happen it will mar the lives of our children and grandchildren for two generations.

But still, Stop Brexit! is not the best way to make the case. It's a negative, combative slogan that only provokes Brexiteers without making an argument.

The fact is that every day produces a new example of why Britain needs Europe, belongs to Europe and has not only gained from her membership of the EU but through it, has helped millions of people in Europe and across the world to a better life.

The EU is not Europe of course, and it has big problems and serious faults. But it is far and away the most enlightened collaboration between nations of modern times. Its laws and regulations are the product of more than 50 years of accumulated legal, political, commercial and philosophical thinking, some, but not all of it, provided by Britain. That's why so many other parts of the world are copying it.

Britain belongs to Europe. It's not just geography. Our culture and our values are predominantly European, going back to classical times.

By all means Stop Brext!. But let's also make the positive case for remaining in the EU. Let's apply Britain's great history and experience to help strengthening and reforming it, not weakening it.

And lets bring to a halt the absurd, expensive and time-wasting 'negotiations' over Brexit, the mere fear of which has already pushed Britain from the top to near the bottom of Europe's growth league.
