Antonio Tabucchi

Antonio Tabucchi was born in Pisa, Italy, in 1943. He discovered the works of the Portuguese writer Pessoa in the 1960s at the Sorbonne University. He became so fascinated with the author that on his returned to Italy, he started to learn Portuguese and later graduated in Portuguese literature, which he currently teaches at the University of Siena. His first novel was published in 1975 and was followed by many others. Despite the prizes and awards in Italy and abroad, his main occupation remains teaching. Throughout the 1980s, he translated and edited into Italian the works of Pessoa and poetry by Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Some of his works were made into films: Alain Corneau adapted "Notturno Indiano", Alain Tanner "Requiem" and Roberto Faenza "Sostiene Pereira" with Marcello Mastroianni. <
His works, which include novels, short stories, essays and theatrical texts, are translated into over 30 languages (including Turkish, Chinese, Kurd, etc.).
