Andrea de Carlo grew up in Milan, and started writing when he was in secondary school. He studied History at University and then spent some time travelling and living in America, Australia and South America, as well as in a number of European cities. His first novel to be published was "Treno di panna", for which Italo Calvino wrote an introduction. His novel "Uccelli da gabbia e da voliera" was praised by Federico Fellini, and the two worked together on Fellini's film "E la nave va". After this De Carlo directed a short documentary film "Le facce di Fellini". His best known novel is "Due di Due", which is a partly autobiographical book about the friendship between two people with contrasting personalities; Guido who hates Milan and travels abroad, and Mario who chooses to live in the Italian countryside. Alongside his writing De Carlo has released a music CD and participates in the Greenpeace campaign "Writers for the forests". He currently lives in a hilltop house in central Italy.
