 Carlo Lucarelli

Carlo Lucarelli was born on 26 October 1960 in Parma, Italy. He has written 11 novels, specialising in detective stories and intrigue ("Romanzo giallo") and has made a name for himself as a fresh and exciting new voice in Italian crime fiction. His biggest success came with the historical trilogy revolving around superintendent De Luca and set in fascist Italy. He is part of several authors groups, including Gruppo 13 which he founded, AIEP (Associazion Internazional Escritor de Poliziacio) and the Associazione Scrittori di Bologna. His novels were first translated by Gallimard's prestigious "Série Noir" and are now translated in many other languages (German, Norwegian, Greek, etc.).

He now lives between Mordano (in the province of Bologna) and San Marino, although he travels a lot within Italy and abroad, taking part in literary events. He is also a lecturer in creative studies at the Holden and Baricco schools as well as in a prison in Padova, and a regular collaborator to various newspapers and magazines ("Sabato Sera", "Il Manifesto", "il Messaggero", "L'Europeo"). He coordinates a review on the internet, "Incubatoio 16", plays in a post-punk band named "Progetto K", adores jazz, and writes scenarios for comic strips. He has also collaborated to television projects, runs a programme about unsolved crimes ("Blu Notte"), and some of his novels have been made into films ("Almost blue" and "Non ho sonno" for which he took part in the writing of the scenario). Another of his numerous activities is directing video clips, including a recent one for the Italian artist Vasco Rossi. <
